Overview

The Weiser Cabinet is a household consumption tracking application. This policy describes how we handle information collected through the app and our website. Your data belongs to a household rather than to an individual account, which means members of your household can see the items, lists, and photos you add.

Information we collect

We collect information necessary to operate the service, including an email address for your household, the names household members choose for themselves, a device identifier associated with your account, and the data you generate while using the app — product scans, inventory activity, shopping lists, order history, recipes you save, and photos you add to items.

If you contact us through our website to request an invitation or to join a mailing list, we collect the email address and any details you choose to provide in that request.

Photos you add to items

When you save a leftover or another item you are keeping, you can attach a photo to it. These photos are stored in our systems so they are available on every device in your household. A photo lasts exactly as long as the item does — when you mark the item consumed, discarded, or expired, the photo is deleted in the same action. Items you freeze keep their photos longer, because you keep the item longer. If an item sits untouched for an extended period, we remove its photo automatically so nothing lingers indefinitely.

These photos are stored in access-controlled storage and are visible only to members of your household. We do not sell them, use them for advertising, or examine their contents. No automated system reads them.

Photos of labels and fresh items

Some items have no barcode to scan — a package of meat from the butcher counter is the common case. For these, the app photographs the label so the printed text can be read and turned into an inventory entry. To do that, the photo is sent to a third-party artificial intelligence service that extracts the text and returns it to us. Nothing identifying you, your household, or your location is sent with the image.

These photos are read for one purpose: to convert what is printed on the label into a usable product record. They are not used for advertising, sold, or examined for anything beyond the text on the label.

We keep these photos after the text has been extracted, so that entries read incorrectly can be checked and corrected and to support related features in the future. They are held in access-controlled storage, are not visible outside your household, and are cleared out periodically. Deleting your account deletes them.

If we ever begin analyzing photos for anything beyond what is described here, we will update this policy before that change takes effect.

Voice input

Where the app lets you describe an item by speaking, the speech is converted to text by your Android device using the transcription built into the operating system. We receive only the resulting text. Audio recordings are not created by us, not sent to our systems, and not stored by us.

Barcode lookups

When you scan a barcode we have not seen before, the barcode number is sent to third-party product databases so the item can be identified and its name, brand, and packaging details returned. Only the barcode number is sent. Those services receive nothing that identifies you or your household.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are purchased and processed through Google Play. We never receive or store your payment card, bank details, or billing address. Google provides us with a purchase record and subscription status so we can confirm which household a subscription belongs to and keep your access current. We use that information only to operate your subscription.

How we use your information

Information we collect is used to provide and improve the Weiser Cabinet service, generate your shopping lists, deliver communications related to your account and shopping activity, and develop product features. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not serve advertising in the app.

Aggregate and anonymized data

We study consumption patterns across many households in combined, anonymized form — for example, how often a category of product is replaced. This work is done only at group sizes large enough that no household can be identified, and it never includes your email address, your household name, or any photo. We may share or license anonymized aggregate insights of this kind. We do not sell, share, or disclose the data of an individual household.

Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers who help us operate the app, store data, read labels, process payments, and deliver communications — and only to the extent needed to perform those functions. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.

Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Photos attached to items follow the shorter, item-based schedule described above. You may request deletion of your personally identifiable information by contacting us, or delete your account and its associated data from within the app. We may retain anonymized data that can no longer be linked to you after account closure.

Security

Household data is isolated so that one household cannot read another household's records or photos. We use access controls, encrypted connections, and private storage to protect the information we hold. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personally identifiable information by contacting us at support@theweisercabinet.com. If you are a California resident, you may exercise these rights without being denied service or charged a different price. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.

Children

The Weiser Cabinet is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date and, where appropriate, through the app or email.
