Quick Start

Five minutes from install to your first scan. If you read nothing else, read this.

1. Install the app and get into a household

Everything happens in the app. There is no website step.

The first screen asks one question: do you have a household code?

  • Someone sent you a Key Code. Tap I have a household code, enter the code and the name you go by at home — Phil, Erik, whatever people call you. That puts you in their household, sharing one inventory and one shopping list with everyone in it.
  • You're starting your own. Tap Set up a New Household here. Three things to fill in:
  • Household name — anything you like. "Sherry's House," "The Johnson Place," whatever fits.
  • Handle — your household's unique identifier. The app suggests one from the name you entered and checks it's available. Change it if you'd rather.
  • Email address — where your shopping list goes when you choose Send List to Email.

Tap create, and your Key Code and Master Recovery Code appear on screen.

The Key Code is what you hand out. Anyone entering it joins your household — one inventory, one shopping list, shared. Tap SHARE beside it to send it however you like. If you'd rather just tell a friend about the app without adding them to your house, use SHARE THE APP below it — that sends a link and nothing else.

The Master Recovery Code is not for sharing. It's how you get back in as the master user if you lose your phone or replace it, and anyone holding it has that same control. Tap COPY and put it somewhere that isn't your phone.

Two emails follow. The first is private and holds the Master Recovery Code. The second is written to be forwarded — it carries the Key Code, the install link and a QR code, and no recovery code anywhere in it. That's the one to send to anyone joining you.

Check that the first email actually arrived before you move on. If it didn't, the address has a typo in it, and your shopping list emails won't arrive either. You can fix it in Settings.

Once the recovery code is somewhere safe, tap I'VE SAVED MY RECOVERY CODE. That takes you straight to your stores.

2. Add your stores

Start typing a store name and it appears in a list. Tap it to add. Your first store becomes your primary — the default every product gets assigned to when you scan it. You can add up to five, and each one shows how you order from it. Tap What's this? on that screen for the short explanation of Guided Shopping.

If you got interrupted and landed in the app without any stores, nothing is broken — your list just has nowhere to go yet. Open Settings and add them there.

3. The one habit

When you throw something away, scan the barcode first.

That moment at the trash can — that's the one. You're already there. Quick point and scan, you're done. The app confirms with Item Logged and you move on.

Empty shampoo bottle going in the trash? Scan it. Last can of soup? Scan it. That's how the app learns you've run out of something.

The scan screen opens on DEPLETE, which is this. The other two tabs — FRESH for things without a barcode, STOCK for putting something into your inventory — are there when you want them.

4. Your list builds itself

Every night at 2 AM the app looks at everything you've scanned and works out what you're running low on. By morning your list is ready on the List tab under Pending Items.

Go through it and tell the app what you want: approve an item and it moves to your order, delay it and it steps aside and comes back later, or take it out of the flow — it will always be in your inventory, it just stops asking to be reordered. Scan it again and it goes back into the normal flow. Anything you've taken out is still on the Stock tab, and you can put it on a shopping list from there whenever you want it.

5. Place your order

Approved items land on the Order screen, organized by store. Tap the List tab at the bottom, then Order at the top.

  • Shop Now — for stores with Guided Shopping, the Cabinet opens the store's own site inside the app and walks you through your order one item at a time, searching for each product so you can add it to the cart. You log in and check out on the store's site.
  • Send List to Email — works for any store. The list comes to your inbox; take it to the store, place a delivery order, or hand it to whoever's making the run.

6. Close the loop

When you get home, go to the Order screen and tap Close Out Order at the top. Mark anything you didn't get with Didn't Get This, then tap Done — Got Everything Else. Your stock updates and the cycle starts again.

One thing worth knowing before you go

The fifth tab at the bottom starts out labeled Extra Goods. Inside are two features — Leftovers and Recipes. After you use one, the tab renames itself to whatever you used last. The hub doesn't change; only the name follows your habit. Both features are always in there.

That's everything you need to start. The full manual covers every screen in detail.
